Hello there! It’s been a while since the last time I posted.
I just took a break and came back from Thailand. It was wonderful to spend time with family and friends. At the same time, it helped me break my current daily routine and take a step back to re-evaluate the goals and purposes of my life.
I’ve noticed that the day-to-day routine of working on weekends for the corporate world’s shipping features has gotten in the way of what I want to do in my life: to try building products and creating something people want.
I am announcing a shift to my newsletter going forward. It involves two main changes:
I will change the name of this publication to Edward’s Newsletter
I will produce more content outside of software engineering advice
I initially created this newsletter to discuss my journey of rising to the role of senior engineer. I enjoy sharing my progress and taking you with me on my journey to becoming a senior engineer. However, as I write more and more about what I’ve learned and the actionable insights that I’ve gathered, I’ve noticed that the focus has shifted solely to providing software engineering advice, rather than sharing my career journey. This is because I have gotten into the routine of writing actionable advice for software engineers.
What happens is:
After becoming a senior engineer, I started researching advice and best practices for software engineering.
There are only numerous actionable pieces of advice for software engineers, and I have come to realize that I keep repeating what I mentioned in my article.
I am less enthusiastic about sharing software engineering advice because it’s more like writing a research paper rather than sharing events from my software engineering career journey.
This reflection on the writing has caused apathy and led to a decrease in interest from my reader.
What I wanted to do is share about my aspirations (side projects) and insights about money, investment, and career.
There are numerous readers out there that is engineer or entrepreneur that are either:
Interested in actionable advice for software engineer best practice
Interested in learnis and nuances in my daily life that could also benefit my readers in navigating their career journeysng and following my career journey
I wanted this newsletter to serve both purposes, but most importantly, I wanted to share my career and life journey with you. I’ve always wanted to try the journey of solopreneurship and build side projects while progressing in my career. The title on the career ladder wasn’t as important to me as the monetary rewards it brings.
I believe there are more insight and nuances in my day to day life that could also benefit my reader in navigating their career journey.
Taking a Break
I stopped writing in April 2024. I'm taking a break to reflect on the path I'm on. The last few articles I posted were more thought-provoking, as I shared the thoughts I've been contemplating. In reality, I have several exciting projects that I've been unable to execute because I've been too busy with:
my day job (leading and finishing up a huge project)
thinking about any actionable advice to give for software engineers’ best practices
What will this newsletter change into?
I wanted to share with you more about my personal life story and derive that life story into helpful insights
I wanted to share with you my thoughts and insights regarding money, investment
I wanted to share with you about my journey on building and solopreneur.
I (still) want to share with you about the day-to-day events in the job that I encounter, which will derive into actionable advice for software engineer.
In brief, this newsletter will not just be about software engineering but more about Edward’s Newsletter. The content strategy will be more geared towards my journey, which will include all aspects of my life. This newsletter will change to Edward’s Newsletter, and going forward, I will (try) to publish once a week.
If you are no longer interested in receiving this newsletter, you can unsubscribe by looking at the guide here. I am glad and hope that my insights about a software engineer have impacted your career and life.
I still want to keep in touch with you and I’m really grateful for all of you who have followed along on my journey. I wanted to share more things with you and give you a glimpse into my thoughts and my world, rather than just focusing on regular software engineer best practices. Thank you for subscribing to this newsletter; it has been a pleasure serving you and being together on this journey. ✌️
